As one of the most exciting new tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, North Cyprus hosts many different kinds of summer activities.
For those looking for ‘summer action’ here is a sampling:
Diving - Amphora, located five miles west of Kyrenia at Escape Beach, is the first diving school in North Cyprus and has been active since 1991. It offers various diving activities, with wreck diving and excursion trips all over island.
Paragliding – Highline Air Tours, located in the old harbor in Girne, offers tandem paragliding with dramatic views of the North Cyprus coastline. The flights are either from the north face of the Besparmak Mountain range, flying over the Girne coast, over the village of Ilgaz, or over the Karpaz beach.
Yachting - Yacht and boat tours are available throughout the summer from Girne Harbour, available through many vendors. There are also tours which depart from the port in Gazi Magusa and sail along the Karpaz Peninsula.
Water Sports - There are several beaches in Girne and Gazi Magusa that offer a variety of water sports ranging from water skiing, parascending, wind-surfing and jet skiing.
Horse Riding – There are several stables offering riding lessons in the Girne and Gazi Magusa areas. The Catalkoy Riding Club in the foothills of the Kyrenia Mountain, for example, allows customers to hire horses to take out along the trails once used by Crusader Knights, passing Gothic Monasteries and Roman Byzantine Castles.
Hiking – Hiking tours for people of all ages are organized centers in the Girne area and generally conducted in the Girne mountain range. All walks show participants interesting natural and historical features. In the summer they generally start at 7.30 am and finish between 10 and 11 am.
Karting - The Zet Karting circuit is located in Alayköy / Lefkosa and has one of the best racing surfaces in the region. Its track is 1200 metres long and 7 metres wide. It offers five different racing distances (from 300 to 1200 metres) and has two kinds of carts (120cc for children and 270cc engine for adults).
Golf – The Esentepe Golf and Country Club, situated on the eastern coastal road near Esentepe, is opening in 2007. This top grade golf course has 7,500 square meters of pathway that link areas with 4 different types of grass and 285 olive trees.Apart from the 18 holes there are three holes used as a golf training academy. The site includes a 30-bay driving range, measuring 295m by 100m.
